Leg Pain? Let Us Help You Get Back on Your Feet

There could be many reasons why your leg hurts, but a dull ache or cramping may be a sign of a problem in your blood vessels. With early diagnosis and treatment, we can put that spring back in your step again.

At Soffer Health Institute, our focus is on vascular health. Led by Dr. Ariel Soffer, our team understands the many conditions that can lead to leg pain, and we can remedy the problem so that you can regain pain-free mobility.

If you’re struggling with leg pain, here’s a look at some of the possible culprits and our corresponding treatments.

Behind the leg pain

As we mentioned, there are any number of reasons why your leg(s) may be in pain, but if there’s no obvious wound, the problem may stem from a malfunction in your vascular system. The most common blood vessel issues that can cause leg pain include:

Chronic venous insufficiency

The veins in your legs are equipped with tiny valves that help keep your blood flowing in the right direction — up to your heart. These valves close off as your blood passes through, preventing it from spilling backward.

If these valves weaken, your blood can pool, which can lead to:

Chronic venous insufficiency is also what’s behind the development of spider veins and varicose veins.

Peripheral artery disease (PAD)

If plaque builds up in your arteries, your legs may not be getting the blood flow they need, which can lead to:

While chronic venous insufficiency and PAD are among the more common causes of leg pain, the problem can also develop because of a blood clot in your leg, which may be a deep vein thrombosis.

Treating leg pain

When you come in, we review your symptoms and perform an extensive evaluation to pinpoint the problem. We’re equipped with the latest diagnostic tools, including ultrasound and venography, that help us better visualize the function of the vessels in your legs.

Once we have a better idea of what's causing your leg pain, we come up with an appropriate treatment plan, which can range from medications to thin your blood to surgical techniques to remove or open your blood vessels.

For example, if you have painful varicose veins, we can turn to sclerotherapy, endovenous ablation, or vein removal surgery. Rest assured, while each of these techniques destroys or removes your problematic vein, your blood reroutes itself to healthier vessels.

If your problem stems from PAD, we may recommend an angioplasty — a surgery that opens your artery for better blood flow.

The bottom line is that unexplained leg pain should never be ignored, and the odds are good that we can provide an explanation through our vein evaluation.

To take the first step toward relieving your leg pain, contact one of our three locations in Weston, or Aventura, Florida, to set up an appointment. We also offer telemedicine services so you can receive an initial review of your leg pain from the comforts of your own home.
